It is the greatest commandment, says the Lord, the love of Him and secondly the love of the neighbor. The hurricane of love is undoubtedly the most sought after fulfillment in mother earth. Immeasurable, invisible and weightless, billions have historically got lost in it. It is a beautiful thing, many have confessed. Some at first sight get their frequencies aligned and just like ice melts into rain, their heart fluxes. Even when they go out of sight, the image of their loved ones constantly animates in their mind.
The old school times, if fairy tales and classical photo-plays are anything to go by, are a big miss in this generation. The days when Romeo and Juliet were not just play characters but Joseph and Mary across the street. Another need, it seems, for time travel. As cliché as it might sound, love is the reason why so many of us exist. It is what holds the universe together and even science has failed in explaining it. It is mysterious.
“Love is for the weak!” A friend once declared to me. The conceptualization around love has greatly changed, in fact the fear of loving is scaling in great heights, in the space of phobia. “Who needs a heart when it can be broken” others have been left in pieces. The Bible offers the basic foundation of love, ‘Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails’. So what went wrong, why can’t people show love or love back? “People are dating to break up!” a friend answered me, in other words love has lost its purpose. The original intention was for love to grow into something bigger; marriage, then kids, then generations.
Particularly, we should be courting and not dating. Love should form a pathway to marriage, especially when declared and returned. Love can be dynamite and dreadful at the same time when awakened. It is like a candle, it can light up your world when ignited but can also burn it down when forgotten or ignored.
I remember the old times, the days of flowers, letters and picnics. The golden days when love was real and moments were created and lived. We can still re-live such moments. Thank God love never gets old. These noble gestures were a sign of care to someone. It showed you had time for someone. It costed less to fall in love and it lasted. These days, featuring in someone’s social media accounts is supposed to act as expression of love.
Sex, the divine gift for marriage, has been misinterpreted and misused as a show of true love among we young ones. This has broken many hearts. Sex before marriage leaves nothing to be desired in marriage. As a matter of fact sex depreciates one’s values, especially you my dear sisters. Sex creates a bond which when broken, you lose pieces of yourself. There is always haste to enter into relationships, not because of love but due to desperation and the urge of proving a point to one’s peers. True love waits.
True love finds home in someone else soul not eyes. God is the author and designer of our fate, and in fact he plans for our prosperity. Sticking in his path means accepting what is meant to be, people we are meant to be with. Better heart break than divorce, I noted. Having this stand means accepting a reduced circle of friends. It means people will walk away. When true love goes it comes back.He eventually draws us close to those he has shaped and modeled, ready for us. All we have to do is wait.
It pains me to see young boys and girls already giving up on love. You hear of phrases like, ‘all men are dogs’ or ‘girls are gold diggers, all about money’. It is saddening to see young people crying uncle on the only real thing on earth; love. People’s experiences should never dictate our future. Such experiences gives us valuable lessons but we should never borrow from them. Our life is like a highway, each of us on different lanes.
We could be behind because our lane is full of road blocks but heading to our designated destination. Often we admire those that are moving fast, and could be because they are moving on the other side of the road, where we came from. Others could be speeding but heading to a different destination. Learning how to stay put in our lanes is one of the greatest virtues we can learn. It displays our uniqueness.
Our life is all about expressing the nature of our creator, and never to impress anybody. God gifted us with love and we should embrace it. Be willing to risk your heart. Heart breaks are meant to strengthen us and many have fallen in love at the broken places. You never know how many shooting stars you miss while focusing on darkness. The secret is not looking for someone to love us. It is by us growing a love garden in ourselves. After all, people make a living by what they get and make a life by what they give.
